I'm having this as well.  Using braces causes duplicate blue cubes to spawn, and then the duplicates fight over where they're supposed to be, breaking connections and crumbling my vehicles before they begin to move.

At first I thought this also affected pistons, but I wasn't able to duplicate the behavior with them.
